Audience momentum for MY MOTHER'S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING continues to build. Only a week ago an extension was announced for this new musical comedy, and audiences snapped up tickets in record time. Producer David Mirvish recently announced three more weeks of performances, taking the show's run into the new year, until January 3, 2010.

"All I can say is, Wow!" explains David Mirvish. "This charming, witty and touching show has really touched a nerve. We've rarely had this kind of response to a brand new creation. MY MOTHER'S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING is that rare phenomenon: a genuine audience favourite. By the time the show closes at the Panasonic on January 3, 29010, it will have run for eight and a half weeks, and been seen by approximately 40,000 people. That's quite an accomplishment for a show that began at the Fringe only a few months ago.

"But January 3 is the absolute final extension. The Panasonic has to be prepared for our next production, Caryl Churchill's audacious comedy CLOUD 9, directed by Alisa Palmer."

MY MOTHER'S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING, written by David Hein and Irene Carl Sankoff, with songs by David Hein, tells the story of a mother and son. The mother feels lost in life, wrestling with her identity. A new job brings new opportunities and with it a chance to truly find herself ... discovering her sexuality, rediscovering her faith, and eventually coming out to her teenage son, ex-husband and homophobic Jewish mother.

MY MOTHER'S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING features sensational songs that run the gamut from heartfelt ("If You Love Me") to hilarious ("You Don't Need a Penis" and "Don't Take Your Lesbian Moms to Hooters"), to educational ("A Short History of Gay Marriage in Canada").

MY MOTHER'S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING is based on a true story. David Hein wrote the title song as a gift to his mother about her real life wedding. Convinced the story of his mother's journey would make a good theatrical work, David and his wife, Irene Carl Sankoff, stitched together the stories that everyone asks them to tell: what life is like with two moms, including the seven parents at their wedding; the "facts of life" talk that Irene received from her in-laws; and how David's mom first came out to him.

MY MOTHER'S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING features (in alphabetical order) RoseMary Doyle, Jackie English, David Hein, Lisa Horner, Lori Nancy Kalamanski, Robert Kennedy, David Leyshon, Kyle Orzech, Irene Carl Sankoff and Astrid Van Weiren.
Direction by Andrew Lamb, Sound Design by Richard Feren, Lighting Design by Michelle Ramsay, Costume Design by LIndsay Anne Black. The band includes: Sarah Calvert on Piano, Jeff Daze on Bass, Timothy Bovaconti on Guitar and more and David Pontello on Drums.
This original Canadian musical comedy became the toast of the 2009 Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival when it played in July at Bread & Circus in a tiny Kensington Market storefront.
