Andrew Craig's THE GOSPEL CHRISTMAS PROJECT Returns To The Young Centre 12/13

Albert Schultz, General Director of the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, today announced the return of Young Centre Resident Artist Andrew Craig's celebrated concert The Gospel Christmas Project, an awe-inspiring transformation of traditional holiday classics into joyous Gospel masterpieces. Only two concerts will take place on Sunday, December 13, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Young Centre.

The Gospel Christmas Project began as a special concert created by Andrew Craig for CBC Radio in 2006, evolved into a CBC television special that won a New York Festivals International Television & Film Award and was nominated for a Gemini Award, and has since seen a performance at the National Arts Centre (2007), Massey Hall (2007), and two sold-out concerts at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts (2008).

Musical director Andrew Craig infuses the impassioned and inspirational nature of Gospel music into a selection of the world's most-loved Christmas carols. Craig invites a diverse group of stellar Canadian vocalists and musicians to perform the breathtaking renditions, including Canada's beloved first lady of gospel, jazz and blues, Jackie Richardson, Juno and Gemini-nominated singer-songwriter KellyLee Evans, vocal powerhouse Chris Lowe, R&B star Toya Alexis, and the Juno-Award winning Gospel ensemble Sharon Riley and Faith Chorale.

Andrew Craig is a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, producer, director, composer and broadcaster, who works in multiple musical genres, and collaborates with artists in every discipline. He has worked with a diverse range of musical artists, including Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, Measha Brueggergosman, Ashley MacIsaac and Wynton Marsalis, and award-winning playwrights Djanet Sears and Marion Caffey.

The Gospel Christmas Project takes place on Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the Marilyn and Charles Baillie Theatre at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, located at 55 Mill Street, Building 49, in the Distillery Historic District. Tickets are $45 for adults and $30 for students, with limited availability of $20 rush tickets as of 1:00 p.m. on the day of the concerts.
