Bard College announces the appointment of world-renowned composer, conductor, and artist Tan Dun as Dean of the Bard College Conservatory of Music. As dean, Tan Dun will guide the Conservatory in fulfilling its mission of teaching young musicians both new music and music history, while deepening an understanding of its connection to history, art and culture, and society. He will also help to build the synergy between Eastern and Western studies at the Conservatory, including its recently founded US-China Music Institute.

Oakland University to Present STREET SCENE, an American Opera

Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Dec. 6 (High School/Student Preview Night), and at 7 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 8; with 2 p.m. matinees on Dec. 8 and 9.

APA's Musical Theatre Department Presents SIDE SHOW

The Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts (APA) presents 'Side Show,' its Musical Theatre Department's annual fundraiser and show. 'Side Show' will run from January 11-13 and 18-20, with Friday and Saturday evening shows at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. The show will be held in the APA Studio Theater at 1905 Main Street, Huntington Beach. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $40 for reserved VIP at hbapa.org/see.

Bard College Appoints Renowned Opera Singer Stephanie Blythe New Director Of Graduate Vocal Arts Program

Bard College announces the appointment of celebrated opera singer and recitalist Stephanie Blythe as artistic director of the Bard College Conservatory of Music Graduate Vocal Arts Program (VAP) beginning in July 2019. One of the most highly respected and critically acclaimed artists of her generation, mezzo-soprano Blythe possesses a repertoire ranging from Handel to Wagner and from German lieder to contemporary and classic American song. Blythe has performed on many of the world's great stages, such as Carnegie Hall; the Metropolitan Opera; Covent Garden; Paris National Opera; and San Francisco, Chicago Lyric, and Seattle Operas. She was named Musical America's Vocalist of the Year, received an Opera News Award, and won the Richard Tucker Award. Blythe recently released her first crossover recording on the Innova label with pianist Craig Terry.

WSU Department Of Music Jazz Tribute To Matt Michaels

Wayne State University's Department of Music continues its Centennial Series with a tribute concert presenting the music of the late Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at Wayne State Matt Michaels. The event will take place on December 3 at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center. Michaels was among the founders of the Jazz Studies program at Wayne State in 1979 and eventually became the director. He retired from WSU in 2007. The concert will be a presentation of his original compositions and orchestrations.

NYU Steinhardt To Stage L'ENFANT ET LES SORTILEGES

WCSU Theatre Arts Department To Stage THE WILD PARTY

Based on Joseph Moncure March's 1928 poem, the musical 'The Wild Party' will come to the stage at Western Connecticut State University for the first two weekends of November. Presented by the WCSU Department of Theatre Arts, the first round of performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9; at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. The following weekend, performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16; at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18.

Catholic University Brings SISTER ANGELICA To The Stage

The much-acclaimed one-act opera, Sister Angelica (Suor Angelica), will be performed by The Catholic University of America's new Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art, approaching the 100th anniversary of the work's premiere. The opera, written by Giacomo Puccini, will be directed by the Rome School's Opera Director and Voice Instructor, James Hampton.
