Nearly 90 years after the film premiered and over 120 years since the novel was published, this great American fairytale is a story to love. This rendition of the musical is great for people both young and old. There’s no place to see THE WIZARD OF OZ like Hale Centre Theatre.
This Pittsburgh-centric update of the seventies cult musical bridges the gap between the old world and the new.
It doesn’t matter if you know the stage version, or the movie version, or don’t know anything about it, just know ARSENIC AND OLD LACE has an easy to follow plot that leads you down a path of hijinks straight to your funny bone.

The current touring production of the Broadway musical The Great Gatsby tries to wrap its hand around the elusive and enigmatic novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald but can only succeed on the most basic level. It is a daunting task to try and adapt extremely poetic and enigmatic works like The Great Gatsby to any visual medium (in this, I do agree with critic John Simon ---there are really no optic equivalents to this type of writing ---as five flawed film adaptations have proven).
It was good to be back at the Washington National Opera for their thrilling performance of West Side Story after a year of extreme change for this vital world-renowned artistic organization/institution. As many people already know, the Washington National Opera has had to relocate to other venues to proactively create new artistic paradigms after some tough challenges at the Kennedy Center. The story follows the grandson of Victor Frankenstein, Frederick, as a trip to Transylvania becomes less about sorting his dead grandfather’s estate and more about taking up the family business of accidental monster making. To help him in his quest, Frederick has a team of quirky personalities who round out the non sequiturs so ubiquitous in a Mel Brooks piece.
