It was announced today that tickets for the 60th Anniversary production of Lerner and Loewe's masterpiece MY FAIR LADY would go on sale on 21 November. MY FAIR LADY will play at the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House, from 30 August, 2016 for a strictly limited season. This new production, which recreates the original 1956 Broadway production, will be directed by the actress who created the role of Eliza Doolittle in the original production, the world-renowned actor and director Dame Julie Andrews.

Julie Andrews has been in Sydney for the past week conducting auditions for MY FAIR LADY with Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli, and will announce her cast early in 2016. The production will feature original set designs by Oliver Smith and original costume designs by Cecil Beaton, choreography by Christopher Gattelli, musical direction by Guy Simpson, lighting design by Richard Pilbrow and sound design by Michael Waters.

The Premiere has been secured exclusively for Sydney by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, Stuart Ayres, said, "Dame Julie Andrews is an icon of the stage and screen and audiences are in for an unforgettable night of theatre when her direction of MY FAIR LADY premieres in Sydney. The production will be a highlight of the NSW Events Calendar in 2016 and is expected to bring more than 19,000 overnight visitors to Sydney, injecting an estimated $7 million into the NSW economy."

Opera Australia Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini and leading theatre producer John Frost are thrilled that Julie Andrews agreed to direct the production. "Julie Andrews is the last living strand of dna from the original production of MY FAIR LADY," they said. "I'm thrilled that Broadway's original Eliza Doolittle, Julie Andrews, will direct our new production at the Sydney Opera House 60 years later, and I know this will excite both Australian and international audiences."

In 1956, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's masterful retelling of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion took the world by storm. The Cinderella story about the Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle and the appealingly arrogant phoneticist, Professor Higgins, is an endearing tale that charms audiences with its warmth and vivid characters.

The clash of cultures sparks some of the theatre's most jubilant songs and witty dialogue. The triumphant score features unforgettable numbers including Wouldn't It Be Loverly?, On The Street Where You Live, I Could Have Danced All Night and Get Me to the Church on Time.

MY FAIR LADY will commence at the Sydney Opera House on 30 August 2016.
