Join in Australia's largest annual celebration of literature and ideas! Experience the magic of the Sydney Writers' Festival at Glen Street Theatre with inspiring talks by Martin Edmond, award-winning non-fiction author, screenwriter and poet, and Paul West, author and star of River Cottage Australia.

Non-fiction author, screen-writer and poet Martin Edmond's most recent book Battarbee and Namatjira is a fascinating dual biography of the famed indigenous Australian painter Albert Namatjira, and his teacher Rex Battarbee, a watercolour artist from Warrnambool. Martin will discuss the impact these two artists had on Australian art, and the process of researching the book from previously un-covered source materials including Battarbee's diaries.

Martin Edmond's other works of memoir and biography about art and artists include Dark Night: Walking with McCahon, The Supply Party (on artist Ludwig Becker), Chronicle of the Unsung (winner of the 2005 Montana Book Award for Biography) and The Resurrection of Philip Clairmont. His other books are Luca Antara, Waimarino County and The Autobiography of My Father. In 2013 he received the New Zealand Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement in Non-Fiction in recognition of his outstanding contribution to literature.

Before starring in the hit Lifestyle television series, River Cottage Australia, Paul West worked in all areas of food production from growing fruit and veggies, to the kitchen at Melbourne's award-winning Vue de Monde restaurant. He currently lives with his partner Alicia in a coastal town south-east of Hobart, working to create a wholly sustainable lifestyle. Paul will talk about his new cookbook, living off the land and living the dream of River Cottage Australia.

Paul West is a fresh, exciting face on the global food scene, as well as a brilliant Australian television presenter, with a passion for food, self-sufficiency and sustainability that runs deep. Born in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Paul is a trained chef, a WWOOFer (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) in orchards, has worked in wholesale markets and at retail fruiterers.
