Sydney Fringe Festival Launches FRINGE KIDS

By:

The 2016 Sydney Fringe Festival, presented from 1 - 30 September, includes FRINGE KIDS, a robust program of events dedicated to kids and families. FRINGE KIDS is supported by Sydney Airport and includes multiple events during the last two weeks of the Festival, leading up to the school holidays, including picnic days, film screenings, workshops, theatre and magic shows.

Camperdown Park plays host to a series of family and kids events, including Movie in the Park: Paper Planes on 17 September, which invites families to enjoy a picnic and free film screening of the hit Australian movie Paper Planes. On 18 September FRINGE KIDS presents a Vintage Cricket Day Picnic taking a step back in time with a picnic day and demonstration game by The University of Sydney Cricket Club who will also host a lunchtime cricket workshop for kids.

Next door to Camperdown Park at Camperdown Commons, kids will be encouraged outside to engage with nature, with a range of tours and workshops by Pocket City Farms. Over the weekend of 17 & 18 September, kids will be able to Build An Insect Hotel, learn about Edible Gardening, take an Urban Farm Tour and make some Natural Craft.

Redfern Community Centre will host the free family friendly Black Light Disco on 16 September, an event celebrating Indigenous sounds and community. They will also host Yoganauts on 27 September, a popular event at last year's festival, which uses four yoga superheroes to guide children through the benefits of yoga in a new and lively way.

Over 24 & 25 September, magic will take over the Old 505 Theatre with the young duo Cardistry Cubed showing off their phenomenal artistry and magic with playing cards and Rubiks Cubes, and award-winning performer Richard Scholes is the mastermind behind Magical World of Crazy Science, a fun and unique show for kids mixing magic and science. WouldMan explores the human body as a metaphor for the Tree of Life in an entertaining show, and Wonderful Wall Hangings teaches kids how to use recycled materials to make art.

Marrickville Town Hall and Library are all about ghosts on 29 September with Lafcadio: A Ghost Story, a comedic reimagination of ghoulish Japanese tales starring Sean Murphy, followed by Ghost Story Workshop, inviting kids to devise a scary story of their own.

"Sydney Airport is proud to support our local community as Major Partner of the Sydney Fringe Festival," Sydney Airport Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kerrie Mather said.

"The festival is a highlight of Sydney's events calendar, attracting many interstate and overseas visitors to our city.

"We're particularly excited to be the Program Partner of Fringe Kids, which offers a range of fun events for kids and families to get involved in over the September school holidays."
