Sport For Jove Theatre Company to Present THE ANTON PROJECT

The Anton Project is a series of information sessions organized by Sport For Jove Theatre Company to provide theatre goers an opportunity to explore further the influences and factors shaping the work of Anton Chekhov's play the Three Sisters. Three Sisters' vision of the Prozorov family is one of the most atmospheric and complete portraits of the ordinary/extraordinary flux of human life and ebbing dreams ever penned.

In July/August 2016, Sport For Jove will be staging the Three Sisters at the Seymour Centre, directed by Kevin Jackson, and The Anton Project is designed to give the theatre goer a more informed experience that will allow them to become more engaged with the play, the people, and the culture, allowing for a deeper more appreciative understanding of the work.

Over the next 4 months, The Anton Project will provide a study of Chekhov's life and work, including Russian history, dance, writing, and even cooking! Everyone is welcome to this series of talks and events in the months leading up to the production, even if you don't plan on seeing the show. Each session is $20, and participants who go to 3 of the 4 sessions will get access to half priced tickets for one of the preview performances of Three Sisters. Each session runs for 3 hours, starting at 10am.

Session 1 (March 20th) Russian History and Theatre

Join acclaimed theatre maker Anthony Skuse as he talks about Chekhov, Three Sisters and the Moscow Art Theatre process used in the original production. Academic Maria Lobytsyna will also be speaking on the nature of Russian history at the time, detailing the social and political influences on the Russian culture.

Session 2 (April 17th) Russian Music and Discussing the New Translation

Ken Healey will be talking on the music of the Russian/Chekhov milieu, classic to folk; while Karen Vickery will be joining to talk more about her translation, the work involved and what influenced her.

Session 3 (May 15th) Russian Folk Dancing

Bring your comfortable shoes, and join us for a fun and energetic interactive session with celebrated dance teacher Wanda Levine as she teaches participants Russian folk dancing.

Session 4 (June 19th) Russian Food

Learn about and enjoy some classic Russian dishes from the period, a great hands on experience!
