Webster Univ Presents The Government Inspector 4/20-24

By: Apr. 06, 2011

Webster University's Conservatory of Theatre Arts presents "The Government Inspector," by Nikolai Gogol and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher. The production will run from April 20-24 in the Browning Theatre of Webster University's Loretto-Hilton Center, 130 Edgar Road. Curtain time is 8 p.m., except Sunday, which will have a 2 p.m. matinee only. Admission is $12 for the general public and $6 for senior adults and students. For ticket reservations, please call the Fine Arts Hotline at 968-7128.

"The Government Inspector" is a hilarious comedy about locals in a small provincial town who learn of a surprise visit from an undercover government inspector sending them into a frenzied state of panic. Where is he? He could be anyone--even a penniless rake and his servant who takes advantage of the dishonest officials' attempts at bribery and lies about his noble position. A town turned upside-down, will they discover who the real inspector is? Witty, smart and wildly satirical, "The Government Inspector" exposes the hypocrisy and corruption of the town with biting moral satire.
