ST. LOUIS, MO - The Sheldon presents Tommy Emmanuel with special guest Rick Price, Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 8 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall. Called "one of the greatest guitar players in the country" by Chet Atkins, two-time Grammy nominee Tommy Emmanuel has a professional career that spans over four decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. One of Australia 's most-beloved stars, guitar wizard Emmanuel has earned loyal fans worldwide with his amazing skill and sharp wit. His distinctive, finger style technique is similar to the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to pick up the instrument. At the age of 4, Emmanuel was learning to play the guitar by ear without any formal instruction and was considered a child prodigy.

Throughout his storied career, Emmanuel has performed with hundreds of music greats including Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Keith Urban, Eric Clapton, Sir George Martin, Tina Turner, Joe Walsh and Stevie Wonder. He has recorded over 18 musical and instructional albums, including his latest album, Center Stage (2008). In addition to his accomplished guitar career, he also plays drums and sings, and has recorded at The Sheldon for Mel Bay Publications. He was voted Rolling Stone ( Australia ) Magazine's "Most Popular Guitarist" for two consecutive years, and earned four platinum and gold albums. Emmanuel also received two consecutive "Golden Guitar" awards (2006, 2007) at the CMAA Awards in Australia .
