By:

The Sheldon presents the Tony DeSare and Bucky Pizzarelli, Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 8 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall.

Bucky Pizzarelli and Tony DeSare collaborate for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening of jazz favorites, reinterpreted with originality and style.

Singer, pianist and songwriter Tony DeSare has won critical and popular acclaim for his concert performances throughout the United States as well as Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. In January 2010, he launched an international tour with three weeks at the Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room in New York and two weeks in London. DeSare's noted versatility enables him to headline a variety of venues, including major jazz rooms such as Birdland and the Blue Note, posh nightclubs like the Café Carlyle and Feinstein's at the Regency and concert halls like Jazz at Lincoln Center. His newest album, Radio Show, tunes in to the Golden Era of radio, spanning decades of swing, jazz and pop. Featuring special guests Jane Monheit and Bucky Pizzarelli, the album was released in 2009.

For more than six decades, legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli has had a stellar career, with a mastery of the seven-string guitar that is unparalleled. A dedicated preservationist of old guitar music and the early styles of playing, Bucky Pizzarelli has also developed a very personal style that sets him apart. Called "the complete jazz musician," he has been a fixture in jazz and the studios since the early '50s. The list of big bands and vocalists with whom Pizzarelli has performed and recorded reads like a veritable "Who's Who of Jazz." One of the era's most solid rhythm players, Pizzarelli was always in high demand, playing and touring with Benny Goodman, Zoot Sims, Bud Freeman, and Stephane Grappelli, and, later, recording with George Van Eps, Carl Kress and George Barnes.
