The Sheldon presents Elsie Parker and the Poor People of Paris on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 16 and 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall.
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Elsie Parker and the Poor People of Paris bring the sounds of Edith Piaf and popular French music to The Sheldon stage! The Poor People of Paris have performed internationally and at venues and festivals throughout the region, including the Whitaker Music Festival.St. Louis-based group, Elsie Parker and The Poor People of Paris, specializes in popular French music. Elsie Parker, the group's founder, became enchanted with the voice and songs of Edith Piaf and performs many of her early works, as well as songs associated with Hervé Vilard, Mireille Mathieu, Michael Legrand, Patricia Kaas, Jacques Brel, Eddy Mitchell, Vanessa Paradis, and Sylvie Bernard, as well as her own original material. The ensemble is made up of Elsie Parker, vocals and woodwinds; Ken Kehner, piano; Mike Carosello, keyboard; Alan Schilling, percussion; and former Ray Charles band member Wayne Coniglio, bass.
