Special Guest Artist Christine Brewer returns to the stage in St. Louis with Gateway Men's Chorus (GMC) as they present "Boys Don't Cry." The Grammy® Award winning soprano will join GMC on five numbers and two showstoppers of her own on June 17 & 18, 2011 at the 560 Music Center, University City, MO. Doors at 7, show time at 8 pm.

"Boys Don't Cry," the final concert of the GMC's 24th season, explores that enigmatic beast called love. It examines its feelings of exhilaration and uncertainty; the triumph and heights to which relationships take us and sometimes, the losses in our lives. "The title is a bit deceiving, since most of the music is more triumphant than tragic," explains Dr. Jeffrey Carter, Artistic Director.

"I think we'll have four major musical moments that will bring down the house each time," states Jeffrey Carter. "Christine joins us for a big operatic excerpt, the Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana. She sang this work on one of her earliest recordings with Robert Shaw. She'll also join us in the second act for major excerpts from Yentl and from musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber. We expect the first act closer, a piece from the obscure musical Flight of the Lawnchair Man, to be a drop-dead moment when sung by the men alone."

Classic ballads by Steven Sondheim and Connie Francis flow seamlessly with more modern songs from Barbra Streisand and Michael Buble. Broadway and the Great American Songbook are represented with Frank Loesser's "I've Never Been In Love Before" and Irving Berlin's "Falling In Love Is Wonderful." From The Music Man, Ms. Brewer and the men sing "Lida Rose" and "Dream Of Me." Mama Cass makes an appearance with "Dream A Little Dream Of Me."

Jeffrey Carter and the men of GMC transform notes on a page to a thing of beauty that is sure to strike a chord with everyone in the house. "The beauty of music is that once it's performed, it becomes personal to everyone who hears it. That in and of itself is the ultimate payback for me as a Director. I could ride that wave for years." explains Dr. Carter.

In 1971, C. S. Lewis published a book about four kinds of love. 40 years later, Gateway Men's Chorus present a HECK of a lot more than just four. And, as everyone knows, more is always better! What better way to give you more than to have Christine Brewer on stage with 70 men's voices joined in song making this concert a MUST SEE.

GMC is proud to donate a portion of concert proceeds to one of Ms. Brewer's favorite groups, C.A.R.E. Their mission is to eliminate the endless cycle of pet neglect and overpopulation that exists in our country by creating an increased level of community awareness.
