TABI Channel Documentary on Hokkaido Picks Up Grand Award at 4K Tokushima Movie Festival

TABI Channel, the travel and lifestyle brand operated in Japan by Turner Asia Pacific, has won up the prestigious Grand Award at the 4K Tokushima Movie Festival for its original production Biei, Hokkaido: Seasons in Color.

The series was filmed entirely on location in the town of Biei in Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido, using 4K cameras by Hajime Yamazaki, a video-artist who resides in the village. It was first broadcast on TABI Channel in May 2016 and is narrated by Japanese actress Umika Kawashima.

Phil Nelson, Managing Director of Turner in North Asia, said: "We are extremely pleased that TABI won this award, especially considering the field of high-production series from Japan's top broadcasters. Turner produces more original content than any other international broadcaster in Japan and it's fantastic to be recognized for all our terrific work."

Turner's TABI Channel, together with its MondoTV channel, develops approximately 300 hours of original content every year, with about 10 hours in 4K produced in 2016. Turner has a library of 2,000 hours of Japanese content, with more than 800 hours in total available for overseas distribution.

The 4K Tokushima Movie Festival 2016 (November 25-27) was held in the town of Kamiyama, and is making a name for itself through its work with 4K-related companies and associated technologies. The aim of the festival is to further the advancement of Japan's video culture and brings together the top 4K productions in the country. This two-part documentary series focuses on the fascinating place of Biei, Hokkaido, the so-called "most beautiful village in Japan". The program follows the people who live in this magical village, where the contrast between summer and winter couldn't be greater. The colors on this journey are highlighted by the seasons, the changing climate, the sparkling sun and the lives of those who call Biei home. It is narrated by Japanese actress Umika Kawashima, and available from Turner Japan.
