Sing'theatre to Sell Original Recycled Jewelry Before Performances

By: Mar. 05, 2014

Sing'theatre is involved in the Singapore society through various Community Outreach activities. It tries its best to bring Performing Arts to everybody, everywhere, everyday. The theatre company regularly invites underprivileged women and children to watch its shows and share their impressions with the cast or production team.

It brought the 'Fete de la Musique' concept - the world's largest live music event - to Singapore last year with MusicFest. This community-driven event made music of different genres accessible to everyone at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) campus for one whole day: patients, staff, visitors, just about anyone who loves music!

In order to pursue this goal and continue to raise funds for such events, Sing'theatre embarks on a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity. The company will launch an environment-friendly project in March, set together with French artist Maïté Flageollet.

CSR terminology contains both concepts of responsibility towards the society (community involvement, education, culture, etc. ) and the environment (prevention of pollution, use of sustainable resources, recycling, etc.)

The artist will expose and sell original jewellery (necklaces, bracelets, earrings...) made out of used and recycled Nespresso capsules. The sales will be held before each performance of the musical 'A Singaporean in Paris' in the SOTA Drama Theatre Foyer, from 11 to 23 March 2014. All benefits raised from the sale will be given to Sing'theatre for the production of the 2014 MusicFest and to invite underprivileged people to watch upcoming shows.

'Sustainable development has become a major topic in Asia and companies are more and more encouraged to engage themselves into sustainable activities. I am thrilled to collaborate with Maïté Flageollet who found this intelligent way of recycling used resources, making people happy to purchase jewellery at relatively low prices at the same time as helping to raise funds for meaningful activities.' says Nathalie Ribette, Founder and Artistic Director of Sing'theatre.

Sing'theatre is a non-profit theatre company created in 2006 to promote cultural exchanges and contribute to Singapore's nationwide efforts to bring arts and culture to everybody, everywhere, everyday.
It is the first local company to produce shows in English with Singapore-based artists drawing on French cultural heritage. Sing'theatre believes sharing our cultural heritage between our communities can enhance the quality of our relationships. We believe Art is a fundamental right for everyone regardless of status or health.
