A Contemporary Theatre ends 2010 with a projected surplus of at least $5,171 (pre-audit), the second consecutive year for the 46-year Seattle institution to balance its budget since 2005.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) continues its 2010-11 season with a revival of Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter's most provocative play, The Homecoming, directed by A.C.T. Artistic Director and longtime Pinter collaborator Carey Perloff.

This month, ACT's Mainstage play series kicks off with ACT and The 5th Avenue Theatre's production of Vanities: A New Musical, the life-affirming journey of three women, three decades, and one friendship; The Hansberry Project returns to the stage with its overwhelmingly popular You Really Got a Hold on Me, along with a new partner, Danceable Planet with Poetry + Motion; Balagan Theatre's smash hit guest production Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog continues its quest for world domination; and The Central Heating Lab at ACT cooks up art installations, dance theatre, confidential confessions, and culture clashes. SOIL Artist-Run Gallery unveils all-new performance-inspired installation art along 7th Avenue. Cornish Dance Theater presents The Merce Cunningham minEvent Project with a special site-specific performance in ACT's Bullitt Cabaret. In Seattle Confidential, local actors give voice to Seattle's secrets in a tell-all evening of anonymous divulgence hosted by Ian Bell. Kenning Editions, Oracle Productions, and The Poetry Foundation are proud to announce a special collaboration that will give six local poets 48 hours to devise a program of POETS THEATER, accompanied by a panel discussion with Chicago-based poets, playwrights, and critics, plus a talkback and a book launch for The Kenning Anthology of Poets Theater: 1945-1985, edited by Kevin Killian and David Brazil. The six poets will first meet, devise and rehearse on Saturday, December 4, and present their work on Sunday, December 5, at Oracle Theatre, 3809 N. Broadway in Chicago. Sunday's panel discussion begins at 6:00 PM and the performance follows at 7:30. Talkback and book party follow immediately. Admission is free and open to the public in Oracle's Public Access Theatre. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made at www.oracletheatre.org.

Keith Josef Adkins, a New York-based playwright, was awarded the commission, underwritten by Gian-Carlo and Eulalie Scanduzzi as the sixth play commissioned by ACT through the New Works for the American Stage program.

Michael Ritchie, Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group, has set the 2010-2011 season at CTG's Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. The new season, which features three productions and four DouglasPlus presentations, will run from October 7, 2010, through August 28, 2011.

San Francisco's Cutting Ball Theater closes its 10thseason with a reprisal of one of Samuel Beckett's funniest and most ironically chilling works for the stage, KRAPP'S LAST TAPE. A hit with critics and audiences alike last season,KRAPP'S LAST TAPE replaces the previously announced one-woman plays BONE TO PICK and World Premiere companion piece DIADEM by Eugenie Chan, featuring actress Paige Rogers; these two original works are postponed due to illness.

Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones, currently starring in the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music, have joined the all-star cast performing in Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday celebration April 26 at New York City Center. Like Lansbury and Zeta-Jones, all of the performers have either originated Sondheim characters or performed them in notable revivals.

The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.
