Juilliard Dance, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, presents New Dances PLUS: Edition 2013 from December 11-15, 2013featuring Juilliard alumna Pina Bausch's Wind von West (Wind from the West) performed by 4th-Year Dancers, plus three world premiere commissions created for each of the classes of Juilliard's Dance Division. James Sommerville, principal horn of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, combines his solo and conducting skills for this immensely enjoyable program featuring a pair of attractive concertos by the Mozarts-father Leopold's Horn Concerto in D and son Wolfgang Amadeus' Horn Concerto No. 3. Rounding out the bill are Haydn's enchanting 'Surprise' symphony, and operatic master Rossini's most familiar work, the merry overture to his comic masterpiece, The Barber of Seville.

The Barbican today announced a stellar program of events for spring and summer 2014, pushing the boundaries of all major art forms for its diverse audiences. This new program builds on the most successful year ever for the Barbican, with attendances for events at the Centre exceeding 1 million for the first time, an increase of 36% on 2011/12. In this Olympics year, box office receipts also rose 33%, and the Barbican's commercial income increased by 35%.

As directed by Mark Rucker and fueled by a strong performance by Sarah Sokolovic as Stella and a fascinating characterization by Rene Augusen that takes Blanche utra deep, this production ends up being more of a study of the relationship between the sisters. Stanley, despite the display of his very finely chiseled abs and physique several times, seems to have fallen off this streetcar.
