It was announced last Saturday evening, from the stage of the Ryman Auditorium, that Ricky Skaggs will be the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's 2013 Artist-in-Residence. Skaggs will present two intimate evening performances on November 18 and 19, at 7:00 p.m. The concerts will be the museum's first public programs in the new CMA Theater.

Five finalists have been named in Pride Films and Plays' Great Gay Screenplay Contest, an international contest for screenplays with LGBT characters and themes. The finalists include a wide range of subject matter ranging from a love triangle set in France, a mystical teenage romance laced with racial tension, a set of non-actors facing possible Hollywood stardom, a sweet coming-of-age tale, and an older man's revelation of painful secrets.

The Room, a 2003 film known as the “Citizen Kane of bad movies,” celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. The cult classic, about a banker (Tommy Wiseau) whose fiancée is sleeping with his best friend Mark (Greg Sestero), has delighted audiences with its cheesy dialogue, awful cinematography, and cringe-worthy love scenes. Greg Sestero was written a memoir, The Disaster Artist, about his experience working on The Room and his relationship with Tommy Wiseau, who also produced, wrote, and directed the film.

In mid-August, the news website Bloomberg.com reported that 54 Below, the popular new nightclub that opened last June in the basement of the old Studio 54, needed a major cash infusion in the six-figure range if it was going to survive. Perhaps if they just book Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway on a regular basis-either individually or together-their bottom line will start singing a happy tune.
