An exhibition of works by Haile King Rubie, a 26-year-old Harlem artist with Down Syndrome, will inaugurate the Clara Francis Gallery, a new Harlem art spot, July 27 to August 17, 2016. The exhibition, 'Haile King Rubie: Speaking Colors,' is primarily drawn from Rubie's 'art waves' of 2013 and 2015 and features contemplations of his otherwise inaccessible inner world. The new gallery space, located at 2070 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., is a welcome addition to Harlem's art district.

ADOPT THE ARTS will launch a live benefit concert and live auction for LAUSD elementary schools on Thursday, May 12 at The Fonda Theatre (6126 Hollywood Boulevard) in Los Angeles (red carpet 6:00-7:15PM, show starts: 7:30PM). Music luminaries will gather to perform with and honor 2016 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees GLENN HUGHES (Deep Purple) and ROBIN ZANDER (Cheap Trick) for their contributions to American art and culture. The former star of television's 'Adventures in Paradise' Gardner McKay, also an author, sailor and man of the sea his entire life, wrote Sea Marks in 1981. The two person play portrays an unlikely couple, one living in Ireland, and the other in Liverpool, past their passionate youth who revive the age-old art of writing love letters to woo. While Gardner wrote his play in the 21st century, and subsequently won a LA Drama Circles' Critics Award, the 1960's setting remains more than half a century removed from contemporary cell phones with email and texting at one's fingertips.
