BWW Review: Iannone Uncovers Edwin Booth's Life at Theater RED's World Premiere
by Peggy Sue Dunigan - Aug 19, 2015

Milwaukee's TheateRED begins their 2015-2016 season titled 'We All Have Blood On Our Hands,' with a World Premiere written by one of the city's acclaimed actors and directors, Angela Iannone. Iannone constructs a play, The Seed of Banquo, based on the historical facts of American theater great Edwin Booth, and yes, also the brother of the infamous John Wilkes Booth. Edwin Booth opened a theater with his namesake in 1888, and then directed, designed and starred in the plays he choose to produce. In Iannone's The Seeds of Banquo, his historical and personal stage design, prompt book and blocking were used to recreate Booth's original production, including the stage back drop, while she intermingles Booth's personal life to the point where lines in Shakespeare's Macbeth might easily be quoted by the individual Booth regarding his own relections.

BWW Reviews: MULLINGAR OF OUR MINDS
by Kristen Morale - Jul 4, 2015

So saying, the plot of John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar shows just disheartening it is when four characters are discovered to have been strangers for so long due to those undisclosed feelings that have eaten away at their souls for so long; when the time for changes arises, the obstacles which arise and the way in which each character reacts makes this such an epic story. How disheartening it is for four people to have lived over the last few years with the "what is" as the unchanging doctrine of their reality, living in anticipation of something that may or may not come and meandering in this life until fate sticks her ugly hand in to change the bleak, unmoving world that such characters inhabit. Yet, how beautiful it is to see four wildly talented actors bring such inner turmoil to a head in Cape Rep's current production of Shanley's epic play.

Pacific Symphony Summer Festival to Feature Pianist Rueiben Chen, & More
by Matt Smith - Jul 1, 2015

Orange County, Calif.—June 30, 2015—A shining jewel among the most popular piano repertoire, Beethoven's “Emperor” concerto bursts to life at Pacific Symphony's Summer Festival in the hands of internationally renowned pianist Rueiben Chen. The Boston Globe has said: “He plays with the white-hot energy, steel-fingered power and athletic virtuosity… Chen showed that he can play with delicacy and imagination.” Full of romanticism, majesty and beauty, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 is the last piece the composer wrote in concerto form and has remained the favorite among his fans. Led by Assistant Conductor Alejandro Gutiérrez in his Summer Festival debut, this concert also marks the maestro's final performance with the Symphony. This wonderful evening of music under the stars opens with Verdi's stormy and colorful “La Forza Del Destino” and concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov's “Scheherazade,” a musical rendition of “Arabian Nights.”
