Presented by Asian CineVision, the 42nd Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF42), and taking place July 25 – August 3 in New York City, has announced its full film lineup. The first and longest running Asian interest film festival in the country, AAIFF42 will be presenting 12 narrative features, 9 documentary features, and 67 short films, from 19 countries.

The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the showcase of new independent feature films selected across all categories for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 24 - February 3, 2019.

The York Theatre Company in association with Documentary Arts presents the world premiere of the new musical Lonesome Blues, based on the true story of legendary bluesman Blind Lemon Jefferson, created by Alan Govenar (Texas in Paris) and Akin Babatunde (Blind Lemon Blues), directed by Katherine Owens (How Is It That We Live or Shakey Jake + Alice), performed by Akin Babatunde with David Weiss on guitar.

The third book in the romantic suspense series, the Cavelli Angel Saga, by local author involves a deathbed promise that propels two unwilling hearts to risk becoming collateral damage when love faces off with vengeance. In 'Angel Lost, Angel Found,' author Annalisa Russo pits Charity O'Malley against Gabriel Cavelli, the badass, Harley-riding Cavelli brother. Charity is about to break the law of the land in order to follow her dreams. She plans to become a whisper sister when she reopens her father's speakeasy, but Big Mike O'Malley reaches out from the grave to save his recalcitrant daughter from her folly. After he made a deathbed promise to Big Mike, Gabe finds himself responsible for the man's young, educated-out-east daughter and tries to save the unwilling damsel in distress from a crooked Prohibition man. As more threats unravel, old enemies come out of the shadows and force Charity and Gabe to band together against decades old, dark secrets. The historical tale delves into 1926 Chicago and the turbulent times of that post war decade. With captivating characters, a keep-you-guessing plot, and detailed historical information, Russo takes you through a realistic depiction of the life and struggle of her heroine during the period. The Cavellis are a large, hard-working, Italian immigrant family-not unlike Russo's own family as both her maternal and paternal grandparents came to America in the 1920's. 'As a child, I loved to hear stories from my Nonna's era. I have a picture of my grandparents-she's wearing a cloche hat and rolled stockings, and he's wearing the popular straw boater,' says Russo. 'I always thought the 1920's was an interesting and important time for women. We finally got the vote in 1920-after only petitioning Congress for a little over a hundred years. And then hemlines went up and stockings rolled down, brazen witness to the fact the modern woman-gasp-wasn't wearing a corset. The road to equality was a long one and it started back then.'
