Bay Street Theatre begins the 2013 Mainstage Season with Lend Me a Tenor (May 28 - June 23). This hilarious Ken Ludwig comedy started rehearsals this week in New York City under the direction of Don Stephenson. The cast includes Judy Blazer, Scott Cote, Betsy DiLellio, Donna English, Nancy Johnston, Noah Plomgren, Steve Rosen and Roland Rusinek. Ticket prices are $59.50 and $69.50. Tonight is opening night at the Guthrie for An Iliad, the single-actor storytelling adaptation of Homer's Greek classic about the siege of Troy, featuring Stephen Yoakam (more than 75 Guthrie productions including a lauded turn as Bertolt Brecht in 2012's Tales from Hollywood and as Creon in 2011's The Burial at Thebes) as The Poet and directed by Benjamin McGovern (The Edge of Our Bodies, Circle Mirror Transformation). An Iliad is written by Lisa Peterson (director of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Guthrie in 2012, as well as the upcoming production of Clybourne Parkopening in June) and Denis O'Hare from a translation of Homer by Robert Fagles.

UW School of Drama presents five one-act plays by Tennessee Williams, directed by MFA directing candidates Leah Adcock-Starr and Tina Polzin and featuring performers from the School of Drama's graduate and undergraduate programs. Previews begin Wednesday, May 29 at the Glenn Hughes Penthouse Theatre. Opening Night is Friday May 31 and the production runs through Sunday, June 9.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present a new production of Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle featuring Christopher Lloyd (Azdak), directed by Brian Kulick (who directed Brecht's Galileo last season), and featuring new music by Tony Award-winning singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). The Caucasian Chalk Circle will begin performances tonight, May 3 at CSC (136 East 13th Street) for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 9. The official opening is Thursday, May 30.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will open Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, A Streetcar Named Desire, at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. This production is directed by Christopher Liam Moore, who, along with many of the same collaborators, designed and staged the extremely popular Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 2010.
