In celebration of Frank Sinatra's centennial year, new, career-spanning collections of the entertainment icon's timeless music have been compiled for worldwide CD and digital release on April 21 by Capitol/UMe.
Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal will star in an upcoming national tour of LOVE LETTERS, celebrated playwright A.R. Gurney's enduring romance about first loves and second chances. Following a critically-acclaimed Broadway run, the national tour of Gregory Mosher's production will launch in Summer 2015, visiting Los Angeles, Detroit, Boston, Dallas, Baltimore and others to be announced. New York City Opera Renaissance will host a Gala Concert and Dinner to celebrate the life of the late Maestro Julius Rudel and his invaluable contribution to the New York City Opera as General Director and Principal Conductor from 1957 to 1979. Maestro Rudel passed away on June 26, 2014 at age 93. The Gala Concert will take place at the Rose Theater in the Time Warner Center, Broadway & 60th Street, New York, NY, on Monday evening, March 9, 2015, at 7 pm.

Complemented by the innovative all-female vocal group Lorelei Ensemble, BMOP performs the world premieres of Karosi's Existentia—in memory of Sándor Weöres (commissioned by BMOP) and Agócs's The Debrecen Passion, as well as Ligeti's Violin Concerto (1990) featuring violinist Gabriela Diaz, and Bartók's Three Village Scenes (1926).
Steppenwolf Theatre Company announces the full cast for the U.S. premiere production of The Herd, a deftly comic play by Rory Kinnear. Directed by ensemble member and Tony Award-winning director Frank Galati, the cast features ensemble members Francis Guinan, John Mahoney, Molly Regan and Lois Smith with Cliff Chamberlain and Audrey Francis. The Herd premiered at London's Bush Theatre in 2013.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent.

The beloved musical figure passed away on June 26, 2014 at age 93. The tribute will take place on Monday evening, March 9, 2015 at the Frederick P. Rose Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Time Warner Center, Broadway & 60th Street. Scheduled performers include Placido Domingo, whose career developed under the care of Maestro Rudel, as well as mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, countertenor David Daniels, bass-baritone Mark Delavan, soprano Christine Goerke, bass-baritone James Morris, soprano Diana Soviero, and Sting.

Calgary-based Honens International Piano Competition will begin accepting applications for its eighth edition beginning September 30, 2014. When Evita premiered on Broadway in 1979, it sat in a similar position as it does now: in a medium known for lighter fare, it seeks to tell a fairly unusual tale. And yet, the original Broadway production won multiple Tony awards and its' popularity spurred a 2012 Broadway revival and a current national tour that recently played in Des Moines.
The State Opera of South Australia are no strangers to ambitious projects and this production is another world first for the company.

Acclaimed director, actor, and teacher Thomas G. Waites is currently directing THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, being produced by the Baruch College of Performing Arts and the Thomas G. Waites Acting Studio. The production opened on July 10th and is schedule to run through August 3rd.

It was an incredible night for Toronto theatre when our community joined together to celebrate another year of performing arts in Toronto on the evening of June 23rd at the WestJet Stage at the Harbourfront Centre for the 35th Annual Dora Awards! For the 2013-2014 season, 143 producing companies (up 41 from last season's 102) registered eligible productions. A total of 48 Dora Awards, plus the Silver Ticket Award and the Audience Choice Award, were given out in a glittering ceremony hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus, founding Co-Artistic Directors of the three-time Canadian Comedy Award-winning The National Theatre of the World.
Earlier this year the Broadway musical adaptation of the original 1976 Academy Award-winning film Rocky (which aired on Reel 13in February), made its debut on The Great White Way. The 1979 sequel Rocky II picks up where the first film (and the musical) leave off, with Sylvester Stallone reprising his iconic role as underdog fighter Rocky Balboa, the small-time boxer who gets a rare chance to fight the heavy-weight champion.
The five-time Grammy-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus will close its2013-2014 35th season with a special concert of music by Eastern European composers and guest artists Joe Goode Performance Group and pianists Kanoko Nishi and Sarah Cahill Today, June 14, at 8 pm at Nourse Theatre in San Francisco. The program, entitled Rites and Passages and conducted by Girls Chorus Music Director Valerie Sainte-Agathe, will feature Bartok's Three Village Scenes performed as a suite with original dance interpolations created by Joe Goode and performed by members of his acclaimed Joe Goode Performance Group. The Chorus will be joined by guest pianists Kanoko Nishi and Sarah Cahill for Nishi's new two-piano arrangement of Scenes 1 and 3 from Stravinsky's Les Noces and will go a cappella for Stravinsky'sFour Russian Peasant Songs. Completing the program will be Smetana's Three Choruses for Female Voice.
