Thomas Stronen and his ensemble Time is a Blind Guide join us this Thursday with its 'melodic music with a twist.' A chamber music ensemble that draws lines from traditional folk music to contemporary music, performed by some of Europe's leading jazz musicians, the quintet combines three elements: a string trio, a piano trio, and a percussion ensemble.

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra today announces internationally renowned conductor Xian Zhang has extended her initial four-year term as NJSO Music Director for an additional four years. The contract extension secures the acclaimed conductor's leadership of the NJSO through the 2023-24 season.

During his remarkable career with the Boston Red Sox, Ted Williams earned many nicknames - The Kid, The Splendid Splinter and Teddy Ballgame, but the only nickname that he wanted was “the greatest hitter who ever lived.” In that pursuit, he combined his preternatural gifts with a fierce work ethic to become widely regarded as one of the greatest ever to play the game of baseball and in the process elevated the science of hitting in ways still emulated today.

Manfred Honeck, Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, returns to the New York Philharmonic on May 3, 2018 for the first time since February 2017. He will conduct four concerts in a program that includes works by Tchaikovsky and Sibelius as well as Dvo?ak's Rusalka Fantasy, an orchestral suite arranged by Honeck. This month, Honeck continues to celebrate his 10th season as Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra with performances in Pittsburgh including Verdi's Requiem and Brahms' Symphony No. 4.

Robert Simpson, the founder and artistic director of Houston Chamber Choir, has been in a whirlwind, a waking dream as intoxicating as communion wine and as unreal as that spinning top in the last scene of INCEPTION, since Good Friday when he learned that Houston Chamber Choir, the chorale he established in 1995, was winner of the 2018 Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence. Under the direction of National Philharmonic Concertmaster Colin Sorgi, the National Philharmonic Chamber Players perform the works of Schubert and Mendelssohn on April 22 at 3pm at the John Kendall Recital Hall, Potter Violins in Takoma Park, MD. Entitled "Next Generation," the concert showcases gifted students from the Philharmonic's Summer String Institutes performing the Mendelssohn Octet in E-flat Major alongside members of the Philharmonic Chamber Players. The concert also features Schubert's String Quartet in C Major. Potter's intimate hall seats only 90, allowing concert goers to experience chamber music as it was originally intended, up close and personal. The centennial of renowned American composer Leonard Bernstein is celebrated throughout the National Philharmonic's 2018-2019 concert series at The Music Center at Strathmore. Performing compositions that influenced Bernstein, as well as some of his very own famous works, the National Philharmonic will be the only symphony orchestra dedicating most of its 2018-2019 season to the works surrounding the legendary composer. 

Manfred Honeck will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Sibelius's Violin Concerto, with Nikolaj Znaider as soloist; Mr. Honeck's own arrangement of Dvorák's Rusalka Fantasy, orchestrated by Tomáš Ille; and selections from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. The following week, Nikolaj Znaider will make his New York Philharmonic conducting debut leading Elgar's Cello Concerto, with Jian Wang in his subscription debut, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1, Winter Dreams, Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 11 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 12 at 8:00 p.m.

Following the announcement of kicking off Opening Night with the world premiere of Steven Tyler's documentary OUT ON A LIMB, the Nashville Film Festival continues its lineup for the ten-day festival (May 10-19, 2018) with the announcement of 48 additional feature films in Narrative, Documentary, New Directors and Graveyard Shift competitions. Capturing the essence of today's most relevant social issues, historical stories and more, these 48 films hail from China, South Africa, Netherlands, Denmark, India, France and more, as well as 31 from the U.S. A jury of industry professionals will select the winning films that will take home up to $20,000 in cash and prizes.

On Monday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m., Nicola and Beatrice Bulgari and the Carnegie Hall Notables-a membership and ticket program for music enthusiasts in their 20s and 30s-will host the 14th Annual Notable Occasion. This private performance in Zankel Hall for Carnegie Hall Notables and special guests features two American rising star vocalists: soprano Julia Bullock and tenor Paul Appleby offering a combination of arias, lieder, favorites from the American songbook including works by Bernstein, Britten, Lerner and Loewe, Schubert, and Schumann, among other surprises. The two singers will be accompanied by pianist John Arida.

Christoph Eschenbach will conduct the New York Philharmonic in a program of works by Austrian composers: Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 22, with Austrian pianist Till Fellner as soloist in his Philharmonic debut, and Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 (Ed. Nowak), Thursday, April 19, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 21 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m.

For the last 25 years, Hungarian/German producer and percussionist Leslie Mandoki has united legendary icons of Anglo-American rock and jazz-rock into one supergroup he calls the "ManDoki Soulmates.' For the first time in the US, the group made their debut public performance at New York City's Beacon Theatre on Monday, January 29th, at 8 pm.

Snapple and Major League Baseball (MLB) announced today a new partnership, with Snapple becoming the Official Tea and Juice Drink of MLB beginning with the 2018 season. The two-year partnership supplies Snapple with marketing and activation rights across MLB special events including All-Star Week, the Postseason and World Series, as well as other key moments during the season. The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado for the Orchestra's 16th annual summer residency there, performing six orchestral concerts July 20-27, 2018.

An evening of song and swing awaits local music lovers as Philadelphia Theatre Company presents "The Summer Club: A Big Band Valentine's Day." Cupid shoots his arrow down music's memory lane this February 14th as audiences are transported to an era when clubs were hot, everyone dressed up and martinis came straight up. Take the Lead Dance Project will have everyone swinging in the aisles with free dance lessons before the show. Champagne cocktails will be pouring at the bar and Asher's Chocolates will provide a sweet treat to remember the night. Classical, pops and family offerings feature works that bring to life great stories, poems and speeches, from Kate Whitley's Malala Yousafzai-inspired Speak Out to Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade to sarod master Amjad Ali Khan's Samaagam to Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Mary Poppins performed live to picture.

The New York Philharmonic will present Bernstein's Mahler Marathon: The Sony Recordings, a 13-hour expedition through Bernstein's recordings of Mahler's complete symphonies. Hosted by Fred Child, the free event, part of the Philharmonic's Insights at the Atrium series, takes place Sunday, February 25, 2018, 10:00 a.m. 11:00 p.m., at the David Rubenstein Atrium.Both Bernstein and Mahler served as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, and Bernstein is credited with popularizing the music of his predecessor through performances and recordings. Bernstein's marked scores from the New York Philharmonic Leon Levy Digital Archives will be projected in real time during the marathon. Music students and fans have volunteered to page turn the digital score live for each of the 39 movements. Between each symphony, special guests will read selections from Bernstein's own writings on Mahler, and video clips of Bernstein talking about Mahler will be projected.

Pianist Igor Levit has been named the recipient of the 2018 Gilmore Artist Award. The Award was announced today by Daniel R. Gustin, Director of the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival. One of the most prestigious honors in music, the Gilmore Artist Award is presented every four years on a non-competitive basis to an exceptional pianist who, regardless of age or nationality, is a superb performing artist and a profound musician with both charisma and breadth of musicianship; who desires and can sustain a performing career as a major international concert artist and can make a real impact on music; and whose developing career can benefit from the enhancement the Award's money and prestige provide.

After 25 years of selling out concert halls and arenas throughout Europe, the supergroup ManDoki Soulmates are thrilled to make their US debut, performing their 'Wings of Freedom' Concert at NYC's Beacon Theatre (2124 Broadway, New York, NY) on January 29, 2018 at 8 pm. Hungarian/German producer and drummer Leslie Mandoki leads the group of what he calls 'musical rebels and idealistic freethinkers' as a way of promoting freedom and tolerance all over the world through music.

Six Rice University graduate students have been selected to participate in the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program, part of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy partnership launched in fall 2015 between Rice's Shepherd School of Music and the New York Philharmonic.
