Written, directed, and produced by Victoria Medina, this new and inventive production celebrates the heroes that shaped this nation.

#ENOUGH Seeks Teen Plays Confronting A Record Year of Gun Violence

As many teens return to classrooms for the first time since the pandemic, #ENOUGH: Plays to End Gun Violence is giving them a platform to explore the impact of gun violence on their lives and communities by writing 10-minute plays. Submissions are being accepted now through November 1 and the call is open to all writers across the U.S. in grades 6-12.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced today the winners of the 32nd annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias, which took place in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Theater Center. This is the fourth year the Concert of Arias was streamed live on Facebook, and the third for livestreaming on YouTube. The livestream was hosted by HGO Studio alumna Jamie Barton. She is currently performing the title role in La favorite and placed third in the 2007 Concert of Arias. The winners were announced during the second portion of the program.

W Hotels Worldwide announced last week that the second phase of their newest music initiative, W Records, would feature Matador recording artist, Perfume Genius. Now track two and the accompanying music video with the rising star is available everywhere. 'Not For Me,' is Perfume Genius' cover of an emotional Bobby Darin song. The music video serves as Perfume Genius lead-singer Mike Hadreas' directorial debut. 'It was very easy to see the visual world this song lives in,' said Hadreas. 'I could feel it even in the beginning of putting the music together. I imagined something warm and painterly but wrapped in alien gauze. Directing the video myself brought the song closer to my heart.' 'Not for Me,' follows last week's release of the single 'Alan (rework).' Both tracks are now available everywhere.

Jennifer Gersten Wins 2018 Rubin Prize in Music Criticism

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the winners of the 2018 Stephen and Cynthia Rubin Institute for Music Criticism. Jennifer Gersten, a DMA candidate at Stony Brook University, was chosen by a panel of leading national music critics to receive the $10,000 Rubin Prize in Music Criticism for demonstrating outstanding promise in music criticism. Brin Solomon, an MFA candidate at New York University, was selected as runner-up and received a $1,000 award. As part of the Rubin Institute's mission to advance and maintain qualitative discourse on music, the two cash prizes are intended to support further endeavors in the field of music criticism.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the fourth biennial gathering of the Stephen and Cynthia Rubin Institute for Music Criticism, a groundbreaking initiative for educational and financial support that identifies and engages emerging young writers in the art of classical music criticism and creates a sustainable funding model for professional journalists at news organizations across the United States. Taking place October 25-29 at SFCM and surrounding Civic Center venues, the Rubin Institute will, for the first time in its history, include jazz in its lineup of world-class concerts.
