WEST SIDE STORY Recoups After 30 Weeks

WEST SIDE STORY producers announced today the recoupment of the show's $14 million investment after running only 30 Weeks (247 performances). The smash hit revival opened on Broadway Thursday, March 19, 2009 and began previews Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Palace Theatre, where it holds the house record for highest weekly gross. A national tour of this production of WEST SIDE STORY will begin in the fall of 2010.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, the new musical inspired by the famed 1956 recording session that brought together four of the most legendary figures in the history of rock 'n' roll - Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley - will open on Broadway in the Spring of 2010 in a theatre to be announced.

Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles proudly announced their new and exciting 2009/20010 season on August 27th at Andaz West Hollywood. On hand for the celebration was the comedic star of stage and screen Carole Cook, who was introduced by GMCLA's Artistic Director, Hywel Sims, as a great friend to both GMCLA as well as the Gay community at large. The evening included a performance by GMCLA's own NPYNK performing a Show Business/Hollywood medley ('There's no Business Like Show Business' & 'Hooray for Hollywood') and 'Tonight' from West Side Story.

The producers of the smash hit Broadway
production of WEST SIDE STORY announced today that the show has shattered
the Palace Theatre box office record for highest weekly gross for two
consecutive weeks. The record was held previously by LEGALLY BLONDE for the
week ending 12/30/07 (Christmas week) with $1,219,488. For the week ending
4/5/09, WEST SIDE STORY broke that record with $1,234,652 and then last
week, for the week ending 4/12/09, shattered its own record with an
impressive weekly gross of $1,308,787.

It became official when, SPIDER-MAN, Turn Off the Dark, was announced to open on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Broadway's Hilton Theatre, 213 West 42nd Street (preview performances will begin Saturday, January 16, 2010). Directed by Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor with 22-time Grammy Award-winning Bono and The Edge creating new music and lyrics, SPIDER-MAN will be written by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger. Well 'True Believers', since that official statement, the 'webslinging' work has heated up, and the creative process is in full 'swing' (forgive us the pun, but c'mon...).
