Sistas on Fire! A Newsical by Marcia McNair and Anissa D. Moore, a musical revue that examines pressing social issues from an African-American female perspective, is coming to the Duke on 42nd Street, Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at 7 PM EST.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Bill Hanney's award winning North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) will soon present Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's legendary musical, EVITA. Book-It Repertory Theatre will open its 28th season with a stage adaptation of Dr. Maya Angelou's masterpiece I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Founding Co-Artistic Director Myra Platt originally adapted and directed this piece for its 2003 world premiere at Book-It. Platt is thrilled to collaborate with Malika Oyetimein who will direct and join Platt as co-adapter on a new script for 2017.

The Muny announced today 21 principal cast members for its 99th season. Full company casting will be announced throughout April. The cast and creative team is complete for Objects in the Mirror, a Goodman Theatre-commissioned world premiere by Charles Smith. Directed by Resident Director Chuck Smith, Objects in the Mirror is inspired by the playwright's real-life friendship with a Liberian refugee-turned-actor, Shedrick Yarkpai-portrayed by Daniel Kyri, in his Goodman debut. The production was developed through the 2015 New Stages festival and features a 5-member cast who brings to life the gripping account of one Liberian refugee's attempts to find peace by exposing a potentially dangerous lifelong secret. Objects in the Mirror appears April 29 through June 4 (opening night is May 8) in the Albert Theatre. Playwright Mashuq Deen (New Dramatists Fellow 2022) brings the story of his own transgender journey as a member of a traditional South Asian family and Playwright Catherine Filloux, winner of more than 40 awards for playwriting, activism and peace work, brings her latest work to the stage at New York City's first arts-advocacy festival of its kind, the International Human Rights Art Festival.

4th Wall Theatre Company launches its inaugural play reading festival, 4th Wall Reads: Women's Voices.
