Well, you now have that chance thanks to the Rep Stage in Columbia as they bring her talent to life. Yes, Billie Holiday is alive and well and performing at Rep Stage.

LADY DAY AT EMERSON'S BAR AND GRILL is a play with music by Lanie Robertson, recounting key events in the life of Billie Holiday. The play originally premiered in 1986 at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, and soon played Off-Broadway. The play opened on Broadway in 2014. The play covers the same legendary Holiday stories that were in Lady Sings the Blues as anecdotal memories related by the singer during her act.

The question of gender parity in the theatre is a matter that has long been explored within our community. While recent Broadway seasons have taken encouraging steps toward better female representation, both on and offstage, the question of gender equality within the theatre continues to be a hotly debated issue across the theatrical sphere.

It's midnight in March of 1959 at a seedy bar in Philadelphia. The audience is about to witness one of Billie Holiday's final appearances, just four months before her death. In between funny and heartbreaking stories about her life and career, "Lady Day" sings her most beloved songs including "What a Little Moonlight Can Do," "Crazy He Calls Me," "God Bless the Child" and "Strange Fruit."

The full cast is announced for the final production in the Coronet's spring season, DEATHWATCH, from April 11 to May 7. This new Print Room production of Jean Genet's powerful and provocative first play, in a translation by David Rudkin, marks its first major revival in almost 30 years. Deathwatch stars Danny Lee Wynter, Joseph Quinn, Tom Varey and Emma Naomi, and is directed by Geraldine Alexander, who received critical acclaim for the direction of her own play, Amygdala, at The Print Room's former space in 2013. The Coronet is also working with playwright David Rudkin on complementary activity around the production.

Diversionary Theatre has announced that tickets are on sale for A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration In Concert, written by Paula Vogel and directed by Kim Strassburger. Bristol Riverside Theatre continues its Mainstage Season with Mountain: The Journey of Justice Douglas by Douglas Scott about this judicial giant running tonight, November 3, through November 22. Directed by Susan D. Atkinson, the cast features Keith Baker as Douglas with Kenneth Boys and Sandy York playing multiple supporting characters.

Palm Beach Dramaworks concludes its fifteenth anniversary season with Lanie Robertson's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a moving and surprisingly joyous look back at the too-short, turbulent life of the legendary Billie Holiday. Lady Day opens at  the Don & Ann Brown Theatre tonight, May 15 and continues through June 7.

Community and collaboration are the watchwords of Bristol Riverside Theatre's production of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People, running tonight, May 12-May 31. Co-directed by Susan D. Atkinson and Amy Kaissar, the high-voltage drama, which concludes BRT's Mainstage Season, features an ensemble of professional actors Keith Baker, Kevin Bergen, Mark Collmer, Brian Brillinger, Laura Giknis, Marc LeVasseur, Shamus Hunter McCarty, P. Brendan Mulvey and Sabrina Proffitt performing alongside Bucks County community members. The production is supported in part by a generous grant from PECO.
