Opening night for SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK LIVE! at the Olathe Civic Theatre on Friday September 11 was billed as a show full of energy, humor, music, dancing and some very valuable grammar lessons. Unfortunately, the show became more of a test of tolerance for low energy acting, singing that made audience members cringe, and choreography that was awkward and unimaginative at the best.

The verdict is in: BBC America has a hit on its hands with “Intruders.” The new paranormal sci-fi thriller, based off of the Michael Marshall Smith novel of the same name, wastes no time launching viewers into the action. While many genre shows (and at it's heart, “Intruders” is very much a genre show) overload audiences with difficult to follow plots and science references that fly over the heads of even the most educated viewers, Glen Morgan and his team manage to walk that fine line between over-complicated and painfully bland, creating an intelligently intricate show that encourages viewer participation…and that is also just plain fun to watch.

In Translations, a group of students at a hedge school in 1833 Ireland are greeted by two British Army engineers that intend to map their town and change its place names from Gaelic to English. 'Yankee Wives,' written and directed by David Rimmer (Pulitzer finalist for 'Album,' author of 'New York') is a sexy, irreverent comedy which looks behind the scenes at six women thrown together because their husbands happen to play for the same Major League Baseball team. The play imagines the personalities behind their public, camera-ready smiles, revealing the nerve-wracking and often comic side of being married to 'big babies with big egos' who rely on them for indispensable support. Ultimately, the play portrays how these women are transformed into a team-within-a-team, collectively enduring by tradition and necessity their husbands' pressures, frailities, superstitions, disappointments and philanderings. Group Theatre Too will present the play's New York premiere August 29 to September 15 at Hudson Guild Theater, 441 West 26th Street.
