Due to critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons has announced an extension of their New York premiere production of FAMILIAR, a new play by Obie Award-winner Danai Gurira (Eclipsed now on Broadway, In the Continuum, The Convert, Michonne on AMC's 'The Walking Dead'). Directed by Rebecca Taichman (Stage Kiss, Milk Like Sugar at PH; The Oldest Boy; Marie Antoinette; Luck of the Irish; Orlando), the play is the fourth production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season.

The Public Theater will celebrate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death in 2016 with free Shakespeare in the Park beginning in May, along with other affordable Bard programming at Astor Place and the Delacorte Theater, it was announced today. As part of Oskar Eustis' 10th Anniversary season, free Shakespeare in the Park this summer will feature an all-female version of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and featuring Olivier Award nominee Cush Jumbo as Katherina and Tony Award winner Janet McTeer as Petruchio, followed in July by TROILUS AND CRESSIDA, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

Bay Street Theater has announced that FIVE PRESIDENTS, the new play by Emmy Award-winning writer Rick Cleveland (Six Feet Under, The West Wing, and House of Cards), will extend its run for an additional week due to popular demand. The production will now run from tonight, June 23-July 19.

The Daily Mail writes that Ralph Fiennes, currently starring in Man and Superman at the National, will return to the stage in Ibsen's THE MASTER BUILDER at the Old Vic next winter.

Ralph Fiennes returns to the National Theatre to star as 'John Tanner' in George Bernard Shaw's MAN AND SUPERMAN, beginning tonight, February 25, 2015. The play is directed by Simon Godwin, who has worked at both the National Theatre and the Royal Court.

The Guthrie Theater announced today that Joseph Haj will become its eighth artistic director in July 2015, succeeding Joe Dowling. The announcement by Board Chair Lee Skold and Search Committee Chair Patricia Simmons ends an extensive year-long search.

According to Deadline, the Coen brothers' all-star drama HAIL, CAESAR! has received a release date February 5, 2016.

Academy Award winner Helen Mirren will return to Broadway this spring as Elizabeth II in Peter Morgan's THE AUDIENCE, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry. The limited engagement will play at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, 236 West 45th Street. Previews forTHE AUDIENCE begin on February 17 and opening night is March 8. It will run through June 28 2015.

Shakespeare & Company's Dennis Krausnick, a founder and also Director of Training, steps into the title role of Julius Caesar for a brief run beginning July 15 through August 2. Nigel Gore, who has been playing Caesar since it opened several weeks ago, takes a short-term leave from the show after this weekend's performance on Sunday July 13-Gore will be back in the role Saturday, August 9. Balanchine's Midsummer, which New York City Ballet premiered in 1962, was the first original evening-length ballet he choreographed in America. Staged by PNB Founding Artistic Director Francia Russell, PNB's production is an enchanted landscape where misunderstandings and mayhem weave tangled paths through the opulent layers of Martin Pakledinaz's designs and Balanchine's marvelously crafted partnerings. All ends well in Act II's wedding festivities with the recognition of ideal love, tenderly portrayed in an exquisite pas de deux.
