The First World War is the backdrop for this tale of bravery, loyalty, and the extraordinary bond between a young recruit and his horse.

Actors, working with astonishing life-sized puppets by the internationally renowned Handspring Puppet Company, take audiences on an unforgettable journey through history.

War Horse, based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, is a powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and magnificent artistry. South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company brings breathing, galloping, full-scale horses to life on the stage- their flanks, hides and sinews built of steel, leather and aircraft cables. Experience the emotional journey that charges through the battlefields of history straight to hearts of audiences around the world.

Based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo, adapted by Nick Stafford in association with Handspring Puppet Company.

Monday 27 January 2014 the National Theatre's internationally acclaimed award-winning stage production of War Horse will release 130,000 new tickets for sale for the West End production taking booking at the New London Theatre to 14 February 2015.

The National Theatre's internationally acclaimed stage production of War Horse received its world premiere at the National Theatre in October 2007, and has now been seen by over 4 million people worldwide. Now celebrating its sixth year on the London stage and recently extending booking until October 2014, Nick Stafford's adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's book continues to play to sell-out houses at the New London Theatre in the West End. Having won multiple awards internationally, War Horse is directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris and designed by Rae Smith, with puppet direction, design and fabrication by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company, lighting by Paule Constable, and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick, with video design by Leo Warner and Mark Grimmer, songmaker John Tams, music by Adrian Sutton and sound by Christopher Shutt. While official tour dates and venues have not yet been confirmed, executive director Nick Starr revealed that in addition to the West End, Broaway, and upcoming Toronto production, there are also plans to open in Australia, Japan, and South Africa.

WAR HORSE Hosts Charity Performance 11/11

A new charity, Families of the Fallen, has been set up to provide extra funding for the families and other dependants of members of the UK's armed forces who have given their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq. It will be officially launched on November 11 at a special Remembrance Day performance of the acclaimed play War Horse, with the National Theatre generously donating all proceeds from sales of tickets made using the promotion code 3030. A special fund-raising reception after the show will hear from the play's author, Michael Morpurgo, and Sally Thorneloe, widow of Lt Col Rupert Thorneloe, Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, who was killed by an explosion in Helmand Province.
