San Francisco Opera Announces 2016-17 Season

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced the Company's 2016–17 Season repertory and roster of international guest artists, conductors and creative teams scheduled to appear at the War Memorial Opera House, as well as initial programming for SF Opera Lab 2017 presentations at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera's Taube Atrium Theater. The Company's 94th Season will also mark Matthew Shilvock's inaugural year as San Francisco Opera's new general director, succeeding his mentor and internationally respected impresario, David Gockley, who will step down on July 31, 2016.

Performed as a readers' theater event, Tales from the Long Beach Playhouse, is told in five acts, each representing a significant era in its history. The Long Beach Players, as they were originally known, struggled through the Depression, the 1933 earthquake and, ironically, found great success while offering comedies to a war-weary city during the 1940s. The success in the 1940s let them buy the building they still own today.

Jerry Seinfeld Kicks Off Sold-Out Residency at the Beacon Theatre Tonight

Legendary New Yorker and comedian Jerry Seinfeld will perform once a month at the Beacon Theatre in 2016 as part of a residency entitled, 'Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand.' All six performances, starting tonight, January 7, and continuing February 18, March 2, April 14, May 5, and June 8, are sold out.

 Merged Work Productions (Lead Producers) and Jack Thomas (Executive Producer) announced today that music-world icons and television stars Steven Van Zandt and Paul Shaffer, along with Maureen Van Zandt and Joe Grano (Jersey Boys), have joined the Broadway-bound musical Piece of My Heart: The Bert Berns Story as lead producers.  It was also announced that Mr. Van Zandt will serve as the show's musical director.  Piece of My Heart will open on Broadway in 2016.

SEATTLE, WA – Pacific Northwest Ballet opens its 2015-2016 season with SEE THE MUSIC, a terrific triple-bill of repertory works. After an eight-year hiatus, PNB welcomes the return of George Balanchine's Prodigal Son, choreographed by the ballet master at the age of 25 for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Another relative youngster, Christopher Wheeldon (recent Tony Award-winner for An American in Paris), shares the bill with Mr. B., represented by his dramatic Tide Harmonic, created for PNB in 2013. The program comes to a comic close with Jerome Robbins' hilarious The Concert (or, The Perils of Everybody). SEE THE MUSIC runs for seven performances only, September 25 through October 4 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. The Living Theatre will honor the life and legacy of Judith Malina with a memorial celebration to be held on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Ellen Stewart Theatre at La Mama, 66 E. 4th St., New York City.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the service will begin at 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

It was seven years ago, August 9, 2008, when retired Air Force Colonel Jack Moelmann of O'Fallon, Illinois, dipped into his life savings to rent the Radio City Music Hall in New York City to put on a spectacular program featuring the largest theatre pipe organ ever built by the famous Wurlitzer Company.  Jack thought it was time to bring a sequel to that show to his home town area, so he has rented the Fabulous Fox Theatre to feature its Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ in a new show on Sunday, August 23 at 2 p.m.

Houston, March 12, 2015—Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will present its highly anticipated La Fura dels Baus staging of Wagner's Die Walküre with an all-star cast and Stephen Sondheim's thrilling Sweeney Todd in April, after notching critical and sales successes with its winter productions of Puccini's Madame Butterfly and Mozart's The Magic Flute. Butterfly's six performances averaged a total capacity of 102% (including resale of returned seats) while Flute's five performances averaged 104% capacity.
