Mainstage Irving-Las Colinas' 2016-17 Season to Include CHICAGO & More

MainStage Irving-Las Colinas unveiled four plays and a musical that will be produced as part of the 2016-17 season to a packed house of volunteers, subscribers, and supporters on Saturday night, May 9 at the Irving Arts Center. Met with tremendous excitement, the new season features Chicago the Musical, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, Calendar Girls, Talking Pictures and My Sister Eileen. All MainStage productions are performed in the Dupree Theatre at the Irving Arts Center (3333 N. MacArthur Boulevard, Irving, Texas 75062).

San Francisco Opera Announces 2016-17 Season

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced the Company's 2016–17 Season repertory and roster of international guest artists, conductors and creative teams scheduled to appear at the War Memorial Opera House, as well as initial programming for SF Opera Lab 2017 presentations at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera's Taube Atrium Theater. The Company's 94th Season will also mark Matthew Shilvock's inaugural year as San Francisco Opera's new general director, succeeding his mentor and internationally respected impresario, David Gockley, who will step down on July 31, 2016.

TV Host and Comic Skip E. Lowe Dies at 85

Skip E. Lowe, the comic, raconteur and perennial TV host whose weekly public access cable program has been airing in Los Angeles, New York and other major markets for more than 35 years--the longest in television history--and is generally credited as the inspiration for the Martin Short character “Jiminy Glick,” died in his home at Kingsley Manor Apartments in Hollywood on Monday, Sept. 22. He was 85 and had been suffering from emphysema and other respiratory ailments, though he never smoked, but blamed years of working as a comic in smoke-infested nightclubs. Lowe had conducted more than 6,000 interviews, often two a week, with guests that included Orson Welles and Bette Davis.
