Goodman Theatre Holds Encore Benefit for BEING HAROLD PINTER, 2/21

A one-night-only encore benefit performance of Being Harold Pinter on February 21 at 7:30pm has just been added to Belarus Free Theatre's (BFT) sold-out engagement-concluding an historic theatrical event for the City of Chicago. Goodman Theatre, the League of Chicago Theatres and Chicago Shakespeare Theater together present this special event in which members from Chicago's theater community join the Belarusian company on stage during the moving climactic moments of Being Harold Pinter. Chicago participants will be announced closer to the event. The February 21, 7:30pm benefit takes place Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Screen and stage heartthrob Matthew Morrison takes a break from his Glee television classroom to headline Goodman Theatre's May 21 Gala to celebrate 'One Enchanted Decade' on Dearborn Street. The Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony-Award nominated 'triple-threat' (LA Times) has captivated audiences of all ages. 'Blessed with a boyish innocence and beautiful voice' (Playbill), Morrison lights up both the stage and small screen with his mesmerizing talent. The black-tie gala event begins with a cocktail reception at the Goodman (170 N. Dearborn), followed by Morrison's performance in the 856-seat Albert Theatre. The festivities continue as guests shuttle to The Fairmont Hotel (200 N. Columbus) for an elegant dinner and dancing to the tunes of the Al Sofia Orchestra. All proceeds benefit the Goodman's Educational and Community Engagement programs.

RED, RACE, et al. Set for Goodman Theatre's 2011 Season

It's a 'red hot' line-up! Artistic Director Robert Falls announces five of eight play selections in Goodman Theatre's upcoming 2011/2012 subscription season-beginning with his production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway sensation Red, by John Logan, in September. Next in the Albert Theatre, Resident Director Chuck Smith stages David Mamet's Race in a Chicago premiere, following its acclaimed Broadway run. The Goodman then welcomes Spanish director Calixto Bieito, known for his radical opera stagings, in his American theater debut with a new interpretation of the rarely-produced Camino Real by Tennessee Williams. The season concludes on a high note with Regina Taylor's musical Crowns-revived for its 10th anniversary. In the Owen Theatre, rising star playwright Danai Gurira brings her world-premiere production of The Convert, a stand-out offering in the Goodman's recent New Stages new play reading series. Still to be announced are three plays-including a collaboration with Chicago's Teatro Vista. The 2011/2012 season also includes the 34th annual production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Providing its region with a cultural attraction of world-class quality and scale, the multi-venue Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana - just outside of the state capital of Indianapolis - opened the first of its venues on January 29, 2011, with an inaugural concert at its state-of-the-art concert hall The Palladium. The Center's other venues, now under construction, will be a 200-seat studio theater (opening in March 2011) and The Tarkington, a 500-seat proscenium theater (opening in August 2011).

Goodman Theatre Launches Playwright's Unit

Goodman Theatre proudly launches the Playwrights' Unit Unit-a brand new season-long residency program designed to nurture Chicago's most promising playwrights. The four inaugural writers, selected by Artistic Director and Director of New Play Development Robert Falls and the Goodman's artistic staff, are Seth Bockley (Jon, The Twins Would Like to Say; winner of the Goodman's 2009 Ofner Prize), Lisa Dillman (Detail of a Larger Work, Rock Shore), Laura Jacqmin (Ski Dubai, Look, We are Breathing) and Rohina M Malik alik (Yasmina's Necklace, Unveiled). The writers will develop new plays over the course of the residency, culminating in final readings of their works-in-progress in Spring 2011. The Playwrights' Unit is part of the Goodman's ongoing initiatives to commission and develop new plays. This ambitious program has resulted in such plays as the 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winner Ruined by Lynn Nottage and the upcoming Stage Kiss by Sarah Ruhl and Mary by Thomas Bradshaw-as well as the New Stages Series (January 14 - 16 and 21 - 23, 2011).
