Signature Theatre Announces Supplemental Programming for THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD

Signature Theatre has announced that their "The World of the Play" series continues with a discussion of the history and current conditions of Chinese laborers, inspired by David Henry Hwang's THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD, now playing in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center. The panel of experts will reflect on the history, impact, and discrimination faced by Chinese laborers in the United States, and the issues facing these laborers today, both in the United States and in China.

Eiko Ishioka, costume designer for SPIDER-MAN, is nominated for a 2013 Academy Award for her costume designs for Mirror, Mirror. Ishioka passed away last year after losing a battle with pancreatic cancer on January 21 in Tokyo. She was 73 years old. Today, as Berkeley Repertory Theatre holds its final rehearsal for the West Coast premiere of Chinglishand prepares this production for a trip to Hong Kong, the show's celebrated author has earned another honor. The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust announced this morning that David Henry Hwang will receive the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, a biennial prize that recognizes and encourages the artistic excellence and achievement of an American playwright whose body of work has made significant contributions to the American theatre.
