Coming off of a record-setting anniversary season, where more patrons attended the Company's indoor shows than in any other year, Seattle Shakespeare Company announces plans for the Theatre's 2011-2012 season. Director Sheila Daniels will return to stage A Midsummer Night's Dream in fall 2011; the Company will produce Coriolanus for the first time, as well as present its first Shaw play -- Pygmalion. George Mount wraps up the season with As You Like It in the spring of 2012.

"Last season was a landmark year for us," said Interim Artistic Director George Mount. "I'm looking forward to ushering in a new chapter for this great company. Outgoing Artistic Director Stephanie Shine and I have pulled together a thrilling roster of plays that I hope will both surprise and delight in their staging."

2011-2012 INDOOR SEASON

A Midsummer Night's Dream
By William Shakespeare Ÿ Directed by Sheila Daniels

Two pairs of young Athenians escape the tyranny of rule and family to enter the earthy unpredictable netherworld of the forest. By twists and turns, the mystical inhabitants play havoc with the four as well as with an unsuspecting theatre troupe, turning everyone's world upside down. Director Sheila Daniels returns to play with the dark shadows and golden glow of Shakespeare's most popular comedy.

Coriolanus
By William Shakespeare

Bred for the battlefield, the triumphant soldier Coriolanus discovers he is out of his depths when elected to the Roman Senate where the politics can be twice as treacherous as warfare. Behind his meteoric rise is his powerful mother who raised him to be a warrior of no equal. Shakespeare makes politics personal in this tragedy by plumbing the depths of emotions between mother and son, pride and patriotism, ego and honor.

Pygmalion
By George Bernard Shaw

More than just My Fair Lady minus the music, George Bernard Shaw's barbed comedy depicts the unlikely relationship between the Cockney flower seller Eliza Doolittle and her stuffy phonetics professor Henry Higgins. After picking out Eliza from the gutter to be his experiment, Higgins teaches her to talk like a proper lady, and Eliza, in turn, schools him on what it truly means to be a gentleman.

As You Like It
By William Shakespeare Ÿ Directed by George Mount

Exiled from home and forced to wander the forest with a clown...what's a girl to do? How about fool everyone by dressing like a guy. Rosalind and a merry band of wanderers find love tucked among the trees and glens of the Forest of Arden. George Mount, who staged our inventive and thrilling production of The Tempest, conjures up a romantic staging of this enchanting comedy.
