EMMA Comes to Centerstage Theatre in October

Centerstage Theatre’s 2022-23 comes to a close with Jane Austen’s comedy Emma. Performances run from October 6 - 29, 2023.

Emma Woodhouse, the self-titled “matchmaker of Highbury,” is completely uninterested in marriage for herself…but has big plans for everyone else. Flying high from her most recent match, she takes on her latest project: an orphan named Harriet Smith, who quickly discovers that Emma’s confidence is enough to carry most anyone along in its wake. But when secretive visitors and surprise guests appear in Highbury, Emma’s best-laid schemes begin to go off the rails, and she is forced to make adjustments while deftly side-stepping the counter-schemes of her presumptuous neighbor, George Knightley. Jane Austen’s fantastic comedy shines in this high-energy adaptation.

This production features local actors Lesley Gordon as Emma, Ben Symons as Mr. Knightley, Alex Koerger as Mr. Woodhouse, Rylie Latham as Harriet Smith, Shelleigh Ferguson as Miss Bates, David Elwyn Traylor as Mr. Elton, Katie Evans as Mrs. Weston, Sascha Latham as Mr. Weston, Miles McClure as Frank Churchill, Natalie Silva as Jane Fairfax, and Erica McAdams as Mrs. Elton.

Tartuffe is directed by Angela Bayler, Managing Director of Centerstage Theatrewith Tori Dewar as Assistant Director. Niclas Olson is the tech director, set designer, and lighting designer, the sound is designed by Bethany Bevier, costumes by Morgan Morgans, props by Gail Flynn, set dressing by Kiana Go, and scenic design by Malene Hundley. Chelsea “Mo” Moniz serves as stage manager, with Theresa Byrd as assistant stage manager.

Review: DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID at The 5th Avenue Theatre

In these tumultuous theatrical times, it’s of little surprise that The 5th Avenue Theatre would head back under the sea with a remount of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid”. I mean, they just did it back in 2016. But it’s a crowd pleaser and I suspect a bit of a cash sea cow so here we are. But I still contend that there are two shows here. There’s half of a show that has the story and songs from the late great Howard Ashman that we all remember from the movie, and half of a show where we do our best to enjoy a Glenn Slater lyric. But no matter which half of the show you’re faced with, at least we still get the luminous Diana Huey back as Ariel, the titular mermaid.
