Playwright Vivienne Franzmann and choreographer-psychotherapist Frauke Requardt use a witnessed meltdown at a coffee shop as the starting point for an examination of the human nervous system, presenting 22 shifting interpretations of the same incident from fictional bystanders. The piece draws on science and psychology, using dance, text, loud drumming, lighting, and a person in a bear costume to take audiences through states of the nervous system. Performed by Bea Bidault, Kath Duggan, and Neil Callaghan, the work explores how subjective perception shapes our understanding of reality. The show is brought to Edinburgh Festival Fringe by The Place, which originally commissioned it through an experimental collaboration with the Royal Court and Encounter Productions.
