The Point Supports Health And Wellbeing In Eastleigh With STROKE ODYSSEYS

Rosetta Life, an arts-in-health charity, presents Stroke Odysseys at The Point, Eastleigh on Thursday 4th October.

Stroke Odysseys is a daring movement and song project performed by an ensemble of stroke survivors alongside professional performers. The production explores intertwined journeys of recovery from stroke, and is informed by three years of creative intervention in London's stroke community by Rosetta Life.

Founded in 1997 by Lucinda Jarrett, Rosetta Life is an innovative charity that offers people living with life-limiting conditions the creative means to explore narratives of illness and memory. The charity delivers choral, dance and film projects in hospices and works with participants to create works that are presented in a performance context.

A series of insightful workshops and discussions exploring the role of arts in a health care and hospital context will take place alongside Stroke Odysseys, between 3rd and 5th October at The Point. Aimed at locally-based dancers, artists, practitioners and students - as well as those working in the health care community - the sessions will cover creative and practical topics including Working in Hospitals and Clinical Contexts, and Integrating Voice and Movement. Participants will gain a deeper knowledge of using dance and the arts as a form of rehabilitation, learning how best to apply them in community settings.

The Point is dedicated to supporting and championing arts-in-health, supporting health and wellbeing in the borough through the delivery of projects including Dance for Parkinson's and dedicated wellbeing days that offer participants a holistic approach to good mental and physical health. With a focus on providing the local community with interactive classes and workshops that will promote a happy, healthy lifestyle, the venue is passionate about supporting the delivery of Stroke Odysseys and related projects.

"We are extremely excited to bring this project and performance to Eastleigh. The work we are developing in dance and health is ever growing. By working in partnership with Rosetta Life it enables us to bring high quality research in arts and health to the local community, alongside an exceptional dance performance that is deeply moving. This is one not to miss!" - Vicki Hargreaves, Creative Programme Producer (Dance) at The Point
