BWW speaks to Gianni Bettucci about 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show Teatro Delusio.

Tell us a bit about Teatro Delusio
Teatro Delusio is a play about the magic of the theatre (especially of the backstage). An homage to the people who contribute to creating this magic, but who usually hide themselves behind the scenery. Three actors with the help of 25 masks will bring to life an entire theatre: technicians, ballerinas, actors, opera singer and an entire orchestra!

Why bring the show to Edinburgh?
After the sold-out run of Hotel Paradiso last year, the enthusiasm of the audience and of the Pleasance people who invited to come back to the Grand, how could we have said no?

Where has it been performed so far?
Teatro Delusio has been performed from 2004 till 2011 in over 32 countries: Europe, Korea, China, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil etc. etc. - over 500 performances. We stopped performing it in order to concentrate on other projects. But the great demand from audience and theatres convinced us to bring it back to life with a new brilliant cast of talented actors.

Who would you recommend the show to?
It's definitely a show for the entire family. It's funny, it's poetic and thanks to the magic of the masks, a unique theatre experience. That's why we've been working only around this for over 20 years.

Is it daunting to perform in the Pleasance's biggest venue (The Grand)?
We are pretty nervous indeed to approach the biggest venue of the Fringe - 750 seats for 26 shows! It's a big challenge, but that's the thrill of the Fringe, and we are very much looking forward to it.

Timings and ticket information for Teatro Delusio are available on the edfringe website.
