Utah Shakespeare Festival Hosts Jubilee Garden Party Today, 8/12

By:

The fourth annual Jubilee GArden Party will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight, August 12. Enjoy a relaxing, summer evening with food, drinks and entertainment presented in conjunction with the Cedar City Music Arts and the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Tickets are only $30 and can be purchased in person at the Festival Ticket Office or by calling 1-800-PLAYTIX.

In celebration of all the wonderful things happening in our country’s motherland this year, the theme of the GArden Party will be Jubilee. “With all the attention England is receiving for the upcoming Diamond Jubilee, Olympic games, and because the country is the birthplace of our William Shakespeare, we have chosen to use this year’s gArden Party as an opportunity to pay tribute to England,” says Executive Director R. Scott Phillips.

The Jubilee GArden Party is a special event bringing friends and fans of the Festival together to join in celebrating over 51 years of classic theatre here in Cedar City. “As part of our community outreach program, we want to find partners in our area with ideas of new cultural offerings we could bring to our community,” says Philips, “We have found this evening to be a fun and relaxing way to do so.” Attendees are encouraged to arrive in plenty of time to enjoy refreshments, view the garden and relax on a beautiful summer night.

Performing live for the event will be the Jerry Floor Quintet, a group of jazz musicians from the Salt Lake City area. Jerry Floor is the director of the Salt Lake City Jazz Festival. He will be sharing his talents on the clarinet and alto sax, accompanied by Denny Floor on vocals, Dan Waldis on the piano, David Floor on drums, and Evan Coombs on bass. The band will play a cross section of great American Songbook, some jazz, some New Orleans, and a whole bunch of standards, as well as some Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Sting.

“The audiences will be sure to enjoy this great selection of music with wonderful food and good companionship,” says Cindy Line, President of the Cedar City Music Arts organization.

Scott Phillips has graciously agreed to host the party in his backyard again this year. His address is 249 S 300 W, Cedar City, UT. Guests should enter through the rear garden gate entrance.

“We encourage all to come take part in this fun and relaxing evening,” says Phillips, “It is a wonderful way to spend time with close friends, eat delicious food, and listen to great music.”
