JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH Plays Kingsbury Hall Thru 3/13

Kingsbury Hall Presents Youth Theatre at the U in James and the Giant Peach. Directed by Hugh Hansen, with original music by Cathy Neff and choreography by Penelop Caywood, James and the Giant Peach will be performed at Kingsbury Hall on the University of Utah campus on Thursday and Friday, March 11-12 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students 18 and under, and are available by calling 801-581-7100 or visiting www.kingtix.com.

Based on the book by Roald Dahl, the genius behind childhood literary gems like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), James and the Giant Peach centers around a young English orphan boy who enters a gigantic, magical peach, and has a wild and surreal cross-world adventure with a group of anthropomorphic insects he meets within the giant peach.

Roald Dahl (September 13, 1916 - November 23, 1990) was a British author, famous as a writer for both children and adults. Among his most popular children's books are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and The Witches. Dahl's first children's book was The Gremlins, commissioned by Walt Disney and published in 1942. In addition to writing some of the best-loved children's stories of the 20th century, Dahl also wrote adult short stories and screenplays, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the James Bond film You Only Live Twice (both adaptations of novels by Ian Fleming). He adapted his own work into the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
