The Contemporary Theater Company is off to a successful start on its new fundraising campaign. The 100 Days : 100 Donors campaign seeks one hundred engaged community members to pledge a monthly donation to help sustain the theater year-round.
The company was founded in 2005 and moved into their current home in Downtown Wakefield in 2012. Since then, the company has been expanding its programming, community ties, and educational offerings. They've been a major contributor to the district's recent resurgence, and have engaged more than twenty thousand audience members and artists in the past 30 months.
This year, donations helped the company purchase the building behind the theater at 321 Main Street. After a successful matching campaign, the company built an outdoor performance patio on the newly acquired property.
Part of the company's mission is to keep prices low, so they rely on donations to grow.
"Ticket sales only make up 45% of our revenue," says Artistic Director Christopher
Simpson. "The rest is made up of corporate support from our vibrant business community, educational revenue, and most importantly, donations from individuals. We've had a strong run recently, but support at this time is vital."
The campaign is looking for one donor a day through December 31 to pledge as a sustainer for the company.
Pledges can be as small as $10 a month, or as large as $200+. The fundraiser will help support the company's Pay-What-You-Can performances, provide financial aid to students, and support quality programming during this time of great expansion as they renovate 321 Main Street.
"During last year's 100 Days : 100 Donors campaign, we stressed securing a second location to meet our growing need," noted Communications Director Maggie Cady. "Over the last year, we accomplished this goal with the purchase of 321 Main Street. This year we need the support to turn this building into a comprehensive facility for rehearsals, classes, storage, and more. We hope that the community will see our exemplary track record of achieving goals and support us in the year to come as new goals come to fruition."
