THE THING THAT ATE MY BRAINS...ALMOST Begins Previews At The Perishable Theatre 4/24

The Thing That Ate My Brain...Almost, a neo burlesque sci-fi feature is set to premiere at the Perishable Theatre. The show is written by Amy Lynn Budd and is directed by Connie Crawford. Previews begin April 24 at 8pm, April 25 at 8 pm, and April 26 at 3 pm. Performance schedules are as follows: April 30 at 8 pm, May 1 at 8 pm, May 2 at 8 pm, May 3 at 3 pm, May 7 at 8 pm, May 9 at 8 pm, and May 10 at 3 pm.

Resident Artist at Perishable Theatre Amy Lynn Budd uses theatre, burlesque dance, puppetry, digital media, and references the genre of 1960’s sci-fi movies to navigate her experience of sudden serious illness.

The Thing That Ate My Brain…Almost examines Ms. Budd’s relationships with her largest brain tumor, her loved ones, and the world of medicine. In this performance about the diagnosis of and subsequent living with a chronic genetic condition, Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome (VHL), the artist combines performing art forms to affirm that creativity and curiosity are the best medicine.

Amy Lynn Budd is a theatre director, performer, and producer based in Providence with an ongoing commitment to new theatre, dance, and performance works. Lady Miss Iris, Amy’s neo-burlesque alter ego, has been putting the “femme” back in feminism since 2001. As Providence’s first neo-burlesque artist, she has performed in rock clubs, theaters, and ballrooms from AS220 to Worcester, MA.  Her “Little Tramp” routine was one of the first American works presented to the 2005 Magdalena International Festival of Women in the Performing Arts. Amy balances the hectic world of freelance theatre with the genetic disorder VHL.  VHL is a genetic condition involving the abnormal growth of blood vessels in some parts of the body that are particularly rich in blood vessels.

The Thing That Ate My Brain….Almost is a project of the Resident Artists at Perishable Theatre (RAPT) program which supports hybrid performance projects over one to three years.

Ticket prices are $10 for previews, $20 general admission/$15 students, seniors, military/$10 for Perishable members.  Discount rates available for groups of 6 or more.  Students, Seniors and Military personnel must present a valid form of identification at the box office to claim their tickets.
