OSTC Partners with Jordan's Furniture to Bring Children Live Theatre

By:

Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), which recently launched its first full season in its new state-of-the-Art Theatre in Warwick, is pleased to announce that they have partnered with Jordan's Furniture to offer a live theatrical experience to underserved children through two statewide mentoring programs.

Philanthropy is an important part of the business philosophy at Jordan's Furniture, the New England based furniture retailer, which opened its sixth location at the Warwick Mall in December 2011. From the beginning, when brothers Barry and Eliot were working for the family business, until now, with Eliot still at the helm, community outreach has been part of the plan.

The generous contribution received from Jordan's Furniture will be used to underwrite both discounted tickets for mentors and free tickets for mentees involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Ocean State, as well asRhode Islanders Sponsoring Education (RISE), to the Saturday, December 21 2:00 pm performance of OSTC's current production, the New Englandpremiere of the popular holiday favorite, Miracle on 34th Street, The Musical.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Ocean State provides mentors to boys and girls between the ages of 7 - 15. The goals of their partnerships include educational success, avoidance of risky behavior, higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships. Rhode Islanders Sponsoring Education (RISE) provides scholarships and mentoring to children of currently and formerly incarcerated parents in order to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty, crime and addiction that too often threatens them.

"Shared experiences are extraordinarily important. They help us feel more connected to the world around us," said Amiee Turner, CEO of Ocean State Theatre Company. "Live Theatre in particular has a real and studied ability to facilitate personal growth, improve mental health, improve empathy, and promote conversations. We are thrilled to partner with Jordan's Furniture in order to offer an experience that the mentor can share with their mentee."

Mentors participating with either organization can call the box office at (401) 921-6800 Monday through Friday from 12 noon - 6:00 pm, Saturdays from 12 noon - 4:00 pm, and up until curtain on performance days.

For information regarding underwriting, sponsorships, donations or gifts please call (401) 921-1777 x13.
