MMT Kicks Off National Poetry Month with UNEXPECTED POETRY AFFAIR What happens when classic old world and contemporary poetry are combined or collide?

What is it like to experience Nikki Gionvanni and Elizabeth Barrett Browning or Robert Frost and Tupac Shakur at the same time? Does Pablo Neruda compare to Lucille Clifton in expressing ideas of love, hopes for the future or social outrage?

Unexpected Poetry Affair, developed and directed by Bernadet V. Pitts-Wiley, combines these and other poets in a process that excites the language of some of the world's best loved poets with the words of modern masters both well-known and unknown.

Pitts-Wiley has brought together actors, poets and performers to present unusual combinations that are interesting, enlightening and exciting. Featuring poets/performers Rudy Cabrera, Raidge, Charmaine Gray, Jonathan Grice, Ajula VanNess-Otunnu, Morayo Akande, Rachel Maddox, Ricardo Pitts-Wiley, Bernadet V.
