Three dynamic forces from the Rhode Island theater community are collaborating on what's sure to be one of the major events of the season when John Cameron Mitchell's rock masterpiece "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" hits the stage at the Academy Players, starring Kevin Broccoli as Hedwig and directed by Theodore Clement, Artistic Director of Counter Productions Theater Company.

"This is a role that's been on my bucket list for awhile," says Broccoli, Artistic Director of Epic Theater Company, "And after seeing the incredible renovation that's occurred at the James and Gloria Maron Cultural Arts Center in Johnston, I knew it would be the perfect spot. I contacted my amazing friend, Rita Maron, at the Academy Players, and the next thing I knew, we were getting ready to rock. To have Rita producing and Ted directing is a dream come true. I love my home at Epic, but to be able to step into another theater and take on such a challenging and rewarding role is the best feeling in the world."

"Academy Players is so excited to be producing Hedwig and the Angry Inch," says Maron, "Our stage has been waiting for Kevin Broccoli to return in a musical! Under the direction of Theodore Clement and the musical direction by Tobias Andrews, we feel we have an amazing team of talent! Hedwig will definitely have people talking."

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is part rock concert, part lounge act, and part Broadway spectacular as our heroine recounts the story of how she went from being a dreamer in Communist East Berlin to a divorced Midwestern housewife, and finally, to a punk rock star of stage and screen. With iconic songs like "Tear Me Down," "Midnight Radio," and "Origin of Love," Hedwig is one of the greatest rock musicals of all time, and a beautiful examination of love, art, and identity that is both painstakingly real and utterly transcendent.

Performances are from January 18th - 27th at the James and Gloria Maron Cultural Arts Center located at 180 Buttonhole Drive (Building #2) in Providence, Rhode Island.
