Groovelily 2009

About the Album: Pop trio GrooveLily and Tony Award-winner Rachel Sheinkin (Spelling Bee), who spun the Hans Christian Andersen tale The Little Match Girl into the acclaimed urban hipster musical Striking 12, triumphantly turn another adult-themed fairytale on its ear. Set in a 21st-century sleep-disorder clinic, the Ovation Award-winning Sleeping Beauty Wakes blooms from the subconscious dreams of its main character, whose evasive waking life mirrors the nocturnal one from which she cannot escape. Originally commissioned for the stage by Deaf West Theatre, Sleeping Beauty Wakes was hailed by the Hollywood Reporter as - brilliant entertainment, while the LA Daily News found it - a thing of beauty, cheering - Beauty s music just plain rocks. This premiere recording filled with the eclectic and harmonious, character-driven songs that are a GrooveLily signature is performed by band members Valerie Vigoda, Gene Lewin and Brendan Milburn, who vividly interpret the beguiling characters and driving, hypnotic melodies they dreamed into being.
