Dream a Little Dream 2009

About the Album: Helen Schneider, once a "Rock `n' Roll Gypsy" and then the star of Cabaret alongside Hildegard Knef, is a passionate actress and singer with one of the most remarkable voices of our time. On her new album, Schneider presents herself as a dreamer and an object of dreams at the same time. With Dream a Little Dream, the 2006 DIVA Award winner and her producers Till Bršnner and Christian von Kaphengst devote themselves to an intimate selection of classic jazz standards from the Great American Songbook. "She's a major talent, with astonishing vocal range, a full palette of emotional color, and superior acting technique. Joy, despair, triumph, loss, love, and pain--the big emotions are given memorable musical expression in this act by a singer who deserves and will surely get a wider public." -- Variety

Label: Edel Records

Review: DREAMING OF LEAR at Upstream Theater
by Steve Callahan - March 11, 2024

DREAMING OF LEAR is a brilliant, memorable piece of leading-edge experimental theater. Its director, Lucy Cashion, has, I think, the most refreshing brain in the St. Louis theater world.  It’s been a decade since she appeared on my horizon, and in that time she’s led a number of exciting productions.  She joined the SLU faculty and has recently become Director of the school’s Theatre & Dance Program—a position which is virtually (and was perhaps literally) “made for her”.
