Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Presents A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, 3/9-3/11

By:

From rave reviews when the play premiered on Broadway to Oscar winning performances on screen, A Streetcar Named Desire has now been re-imagined as a ballet. Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) presents a portrayal of clashing cultures in John Neumeier's ballet of Tennessee William's stage play March 9-11 at the Benedum Center. This is the first time Neumeier's creation will be performed by an American company and only the second time it's been performed in the U.S. The only other U.S. troops that have danced John Neumeier productions were the American Ballet Theatre (of NY) and the San Francisco Ballet -- two of the largest companies in the U.S.

"We are challenging our audience and our dancers to experience something new, something exciting," Terrence Orr, PBT artistic director says. "It truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness a performance such as this."

The story brings its audience inside the tormented mind of Blanche Du Bois, an aging southern belle. Through glimpses of both the past and present the audience will witness Ms. Du Bois' unraveling grasp on reality. The set, costuming and sound design provide a rich backdrop to the powerful and evocative choreography. This performance is recommended for mature audiences only.
